MARCH 2007 NEWSLETTER
Congratulations Daryl!.
Some time ago we had an article in the newsletter about Daryl and his progress after coming to the Mission. Since then he has moved into his own place but continues to work at the Mission as our cook..
Now,
here is the rest of the story written in Daryl’s own words.

I would like to write a letter of thanks and gratitude to the Open Door Mission, Rev. Thebo and the community at large. Without the help, care and guidance I received there I hate to think what my life would be like now. I came to the Mission a broken and lost person without much hope. A recent divorce, loss of my home, and separation of family had caused me to lose hope or to even care about myself. There was an emptiness inside that I could not get rid of. I tried filling it with any and everything I could find. I couldn’t fill the void no matter how I tried, but I found I could deaden the pain, but only for a while with, alcohol. When that wore off I was still left with myself. It was a vicious cycle. It was not what I wanted for my life but I didn’t know how to change. The Reverend told me shortly after I got here that God could take those things away from my life. I was told I had to surrender my life over to God’s control and that was really hard. I couldn’t imagine surrendering anything to God, but I decided to give it a try. The programs at the Mission helped the most. The Bible studies and the Christian twelve step program gave me a foundation to build on. Having the chance to see people in the community come in and talk about God and their lives, was a big lift. to find out that people cared enough to come and share with others and me was amazing. It gave me hope and a direction to follow. With God’s grace I was made whole again, I was no longer that broken, lost person, without hope. So I would like say thank you, without your support for the Mission I don’t know where I would be.

Text Box: Those of you who are part of the Enterprise Zone we would ask that you please let us know. Rather than sending notice out to everyone it would save paper, postage and time if we could get a clear picture of those who are taking part and those who are not. We are trying to improve the system so we can do things in a more timely manner.
If you are a member, please cut out this box and send it with your donation..
Text Box: Feinstein Offers Another $1 million giveaway to fight hunger.

During March and April 2007 The Feinstein Foundation is helping non-profit Christian agencies nationwide raise funds. The donations need to be designated for the Feinstein challenge. These donations can include cash, checks and food items (that can be valued at $1.00 per item or pound). Feinstein’s past challenges to fight hunger have raised a record $620 million for agencies nationwide. If you would like to be part of this challenge, please write Feinstein Challenge on the memo line of your check. The results will be known by August 1st. We will let you know in the Newsletter exactly how much we received for the Mission.

Ephesians 6:13-18

Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in this time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.  For shoes put on the  peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be fully prepared.  In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.  Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit.  Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere..
